Quality Foods has officially opened its new flagship store in Parksville.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Wednesday morning (March 24) with Parksville Mayor Ed Mayne, Quality Foods President Noel Hayward and Store Manager Darcy Ginter doing the honors.
The new store, located at the corner of rue Molliet and avenue Despard, measures 40,000 square feet, plus a 10,000 square foot mezzanine, with a large parking space of over 200 stalls. It’s more than double the size of the old town store. It has been nicknamed the Parksville Gateway Store.
“It’s in a great location,” Mayne said. “The city is obviously developing this way, so it’s going to be of great help to all of the residents.”
Some of the main features include a huge kitchen, a full-service butcher’s shop, an expanded produce section that includes a smoothie bar, more food services such as a sushi bar and Perk Avenue Cafe, a cheese counter and a bakery.
The second floor “Upstairs” includes a lounge restaurant, a community meeting room, an outdoor patio, a library and a kitchen. It is a place where people can gather and enjoy a delicious pizza, appetizer or tapas.
“It’s really beautiful,” said Mike Regan, a longtime customer. “It’s much bigger than any other QF store I’ve been to. It is well appointed, which impressed me the most. And being brand new, it’s beautifully clean.
Other features that customers are bound to appreciate include the Clean Cart machine that disinfects grocery carts using far-ultraviolet technology, which has been shown to kill COVID and all viruses on the surface. . QF is the first store on Vancouver Island to introduce this latest technology.
Another health safety measure the store has implemented is the Aegis Microbe Shield, the world’s first antimicrobial surface protector. They are applied to high contact surfaces in the store.
The hours are from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day. For more information visit https://www.qualityfoods.com/.
