Individual advice
A Registered Dietitian Nutritionist will provide comprehensive nutritional education and counseling, nutritional interventions and develop nutritional care plans for Veterans for a variety of ailments including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, gastrointestinal ailments and loss / weight maintenance. Veterans can see a Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist at any of our clinics in the VA Salt Lake City Health Care System, including:
Group lessons
Nutrition and Food Services offers a variety of courses designed to support the nutritional health of Veterans. Ask your provider to submit a consultation to register for classes or call the Dietitian Nutritionist at 801-582-1565, ext. 5477.
Cooking
Healthy educational cuisine – Practical
This is a cooking class with a nutritional education component where veterans work together to prepare a recipe and taste the finished product.

Healthy educational cooking – Demonstration
This is a cooking class where a registered dietitian-nutritionist provides nutrition education and shows how to cook the recipe, which class participants can taste.
When: Wednesday 10:30 am-12pm

Chronic disease management
Krames diabetes
This four-part course teaches the basics of diabetes, including what diabetes is, possible complications, lab values, medications, and blood sugar monitoring. It deals with lifestyle changes through diet and physical activity for optimal diabetes management.
When: Monday – 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.
Tuesday – 1 p.m. – 2 p.m.

Healthy heart krames
This course discusses healthy eating to help manage a variety of heart health issues, including hypertension, coronary artery disease, and congestive heart failure.
When: Fridays – 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. Four-part series held weekly, every three months.

Krames chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
This class reviews dietary modifications that can help improve overall health while managing COPD.
When: Thursday – 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Four part series held weekly, every two months.

Healthy kidneys in your kitchen
A unique interactive course aimed at preventing the need for dialysis or kidney transplant. A registered dietitian and nutritionist will help you learn:
- General information about CKD
- Examples of cooking with recipes to use at home
- Take Home Exercises with Resistance Bands and Pedometers
- Resources to Help You Dine Out

Balanced diet
Food as medicine
Four week course designed to introduce functional and anti-inflammatory foods, how mood relates to the foods we eat, break food myths and more! Registration required.

A six-part series focused on taking control of your eating, building healthy eating habits, healthy coping strategies and improving quality of life.

A walking program designed to reduce pain, increase balance and strength, and build confidence in your ability to be physically active.

Weight management
Moving! Program
MOVEMENT! is a national evidence-based weight management program delivered in an interdisciplinary and collaborative manner. All courses currently run through VA Video Connect.

TeleMOVE!
TeleMOVE! is a weight management program that combines MOVE success! Weight loss program with telehealth technologies. The TeleMOVE! The program allows veterans to work directly with a dietitian on nutrition, physical activity and behavior change while using home health monitoring technology to better meet their needs.
When: determined between the patient and the registered dietitian-nutritionist
